Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar To End Next Year
All good things must come to an end…. and OWN’s hit family drama Queen Sugar is no different. The NAACP award winning series is coming to an end with its seventh season in 2022.
As a storyteller, the bravest thing to do is know when you’re done.- Ava DuVernay
The rural Louisiana-set series that’s centered around the Borderline family premiered in 2016, and introduced us to Dawn-Lyen Gardner, Rutina Wesley and former Sexiest Man Alive Kofi Siriboe aka Ralph Angel.
Queen Sugar being my first series where I’ve had to consider when I’m done, I’ve had to push myself to say do you have anything more to say that needs to be said with these characters? And I’m so proud of what we’ve done and I’m proud that I’m brave enough to walk away, Ava DuVernay shared with Deadline.
The series will return next year for what is expected to be a 13-episode final run. Filming is set to begin at the beginning of next year in Louisiana for the final season.
