Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin are bringing the story of Ruth & Boaz into the present with Netflix’s R&B, a new modern-day retelling of the traditional biblical love story. 

According to reports, the film which is currently in production is set in Tennessee, and tells the story of a young woman who escapes the Atlanta music scene to care for an elderly widowed woman. In the process, she finds the love of her life and gains the mother she never had.  

The cast includes Serayah (playing Ruth), Tyler Lepley (playing Boaz), Phylicia Rashad (playing Naomi), Babyface, Lecrae, and Jermaine Dupri. The film is being directed by Alanna Brown of Brown Girl Films.

R&B is part of Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin’s new partnership with Netflix to bring more faith based films to the streaming service.
