My Chicago Chicken & Waffles Christmas

For Christmas this year my travel buddy daughter and I decided to fly to our second home Chicago!

As usual we flew Southwest because it’s only a 1 hour and 15 minute flight and I get to accumulate Rapid Rewards points (A girl is trying to have enough points by her birthday to fly wherever she wants for FREE!)

WHERE WE STAYED:

We arrived in the Windy City on Thursday and since they were dealing with an Omicron outbreak we decided not to stay with family like we usually do and instead booked an AirBnB in the South Loop.

Even though it was a nice condo, it didn’t look like the pics on the site, and that was a little disappointing.

We were a 10 minute walk away from food and entertainment, so for me it was still a win!

WHAT WE DID:

After using Thursday to rest, Friday we grabbed CJ and hung out on Michigan Avenue and took in all the Christmas festivities that the city had to offer and grabbed a late dinner and drinks at Doc B’s in the Gold Coast.

Since everyone was battling COVID or the Omicron virus we were forced to switch up our Christmas plans. Before I left Mississippi, I stopped by Old Navy and purchased all of us matching khaki colored joggers (I hate dressing up on Christmas…give me some sweats or jeans and a T-Shirt and I’m good all day!) Anyway, we put on our joggers and went for brunch at Chicago Chicken & Waffles. This was our first time visiting this establishment and it did not disappoint! We sat in there for 4 hours and the mimosa’s kept coming! Nothing like good food, good drinks and family time.

Our plane was scheduled to leave Sunday evening so we spent Sunday morning at Navy Pier taking pics and ice skating at their annual Light Up The Lake event.

This was my first Christmas without my husband and to be transparent I cried on my way to the airport as I received an email stating that his headstone would finally be shipped to the cemetery after almost a year of being told they were back ordered. I wanted to turn around and go back home. But I could hear his voice saying,”” BB ain’t no need in you crying,” So I wiped my tears and got on that plane and I’m happy I did. Even though it wasn’t a traditional Christmas… I enjoyed my Chicago Chicken & Waffles Christmas, as a matter of fact it was the best Christmas ever!

People have asked me about my sneakers… They are Tory Burch sneakers. They retail for &298 and they are so freakin comfortable.
