Ciara is the latest star to join the cast of the upcoming The Color Purple movie musical.

“Honored to be a part of this beautiful ensemble and historic film,” Ciara shared on social media following the announcement of her casting Tuesday.

It has been reported that the singer will play the older version of Nettie, with Halle Bailey playing the younger version. Nettie is the younger sister of Ms. Celie which will be played by Fantasia.

The movie musical is scheduled to begin filming at the end of this Month in Georgia.

Produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey, the star-studded cast will also feature Tamela Mann,  Taraji P. Henson, Colman Domingo, Danielle Brooks, Corey Hawkins, Louis Gossett Jr., David Alan Grier and H.E.R. 

The new film adaptation is slated for a Dec. 20, 2023, release.
