When Devotion opens in theaters on Wednesday, moviegoers will get to experience the real life story of Mississippi native Jesse L. Brown.
From Sony Pictures and starring Jonathan Majors as Brown, the inspiring and heart wrenching film tells the story of the Navy’s first Black aviator whose plane was shot down in North Korea in 1960.. He was just 24 years old when he died. Leaving behind a wife (portrayed in the movie by Christina Jackson), family and loyal colleagues.
Can’t tell you how many times people have told me to give up, quit, die even. That’s why you can’t always do what you’re told, if I did, I wouldn’t be here!
The movie, based on the book of the same name, was inspired by the loyalty of Brown’s colleagues and the strength and passion of his family, who encouraged him and supported him throughout his life.
The Hattiesburg Mississippi native was born into a sharecropper family. He was a school athlete who excelled at math and dreamed of being a pilot from the time he was a young boy. Growing up in the segregated south was hard, but he found away to rise above the racism and followed his dreams.
DEVOTION exclusively in theaters.
