Regina King is back in her hometown of Cincinnati filming the forthcoming biopic “Shirley” based on the life of American politician, educator, and author Shirley Chisholm.
According to reports the film tells the story of Shirley Chisholm, the nation’s first Black Congresswoman and the first Black woman to run for president for the Democratic Party.
The film will highlight Chisholm’s 1972 presidential campaign and give an “intimate, behind-the-scenes portrait of the ground-breaking political leader during a seminal period in modern American history.”
The film is written and directed by John Ridley, who will also produce along with Royal Ties Productions and Participant.
Casting director D. Lynn Meyers was looking for extras according to a Facebook post.
