Virginia State Senator Jennifer McClellan is a Girl On Fire!!!!

McClellan just became Virginia’s first Black Woman to represent the commonwealth in the U.S. Congress after winning a special election against Republican candidate Leon Benjamin.

At her victory rally Tuesday night the history making Congresswoman walked on stage to a cheering crowd with Alicia Keys “Girl on Fire!” blaring out the speakers.

“When we come together and we care more about doing the work and solving the problems than the soundbites and the show,” McClellan said, “we can help people. We will make this commonwealth and this country a better place for everyone.”

Her win sets a new record for the number of Black women in Congress, according to data from the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University.
